A message from Deejay Wheelie Bag

Hi there,

I started collecting and playing records when I first came to London in the early 1970s and became a DJ soon after. Growing tired of lugging heavy equipment around I built a mobile sound system out a converted shopping trolley and became known as Deejay Wheelie Bag. When I began to get regular bookings I also started designing strange games and competitions as part of my shows. I retired from DJing a couple of years ago but decided to keep on with my games. You can see the full story in the Wheelie Bag Annual (available on Amazon).

Around this time I invented and licenced a game, now known as OK Play, to a company called Big Potato (www.bigpotato.co.uk/products/ok-play). When it went on to sell over 250,000 copies and recently became Amazon’s 6th best selling board game I decided that the time was right to publish some of my games myself. So as the curtain goes up once again for Deejay Whelie Bag please welcome the arrival of:

FUNPACK Games – Fun to Make and Fun to Play.

FUNPACK Games are manufactured here in the UK and use recyclable materials wherever possible. For help with how to build or play the games please see the videos on the Wheelie Bag Website.(www.deejaywheeliebag.co.uk)

So let the fun begin – it’s FUNPACK time!

So what’s so special about FUNPACK Games?

FUNPACK – a fresh approach.

FUNPACK Games are a clever hybrid of wood and cardboard.

Digitally printed boards are duplexed for strength and die cut for easy press-out. Wooden fittings are laser cut for precision and this simple process enables FUNPACK Games to be cost effectively manufactured here in the UK.

The ‘Make and Play’ concept of each game slows things down a bit. The press-out boards and fittings require time and a little adult supervision to enable assembly before play can commence.

The games themselves offer a return to simple forms of fun but are played out within a FUNPACK world of the player’s own making. When a game is over this ‘world’ remains enabling the player to put it on display as part of a growing collection.

The Toys and Games industry has brought much fun and entertainment into the world, it has also brought far too much plastic.

We know this has to change.

The UK remains a country rich in innovative designers, illustrators and game inventors however, nearly all toy and game manufacture occurs over 4,800 miles away in China.

This does not have to be so.

The headlong dash into the digital world achieved spectacular growth for games and gaming. But with most young children now permanently addicted to their screens some would argue that this occurred at the expense of innocence and playfulness.

It’s time to redress the balance.
